Program overview
Red Wind, Sonic Residues is a three-day music symposium bringing together artists, musicians, DJs, producers, writers and researchers to explore overlooked musical traditions, rituals and practices across the Red Sea, with a particular focus on the Horn of Africa. Through listening sessions, artist talks, roundtables, readings, exhibition tours and live performances, the symposium considers how musical histories are shaped, transformed and shared through movement, migration, borders and cultural exchange. The programme explores the Red Sea as a living archive of shared roots, memories and sonic histories, while considering the role of independent platforms, informal archives and diasporic networks in preserving and circulating musical practices .The music symposium is a biannual Art Jameel programme under Hayy Sounds, exploring alternative forms of research, thinking and exchange around sonic practices, music production and circulation across the MENA region and the Global South.
